This city has the most random, kickass weather ever. This afternoon, I swear it went from being peaceful and sunny to sunny and windy; to sunny, windy, and raining; to just raining; to rainSQUALLING, also known as raining sideways with winds strong enough to knock you over and rip your skirt off; to rainsqualling with sun; to just wind; and then back to the hardcore wind and rain again. In something like ten or twenty minutes. TEN minutes, I shit you not. x]!!

It's back to rainsqualling now. I love it, so much. We never get harsh, volatile weather in Whitehorse, and especially not rain and wind like this. People must think I'm crazy, running around in this shitty weather with a giant smile on my face, holding onto my kilt.

Yay. =D Yoga now. Baibai.

...X3!! It's GLORIOUS. The wind! It howls! The rain! It hurts your face! I'm so happy!

GAH.

P.S. my inner spellcheck hates the way I used those semi-colons. Due to a teacher in my past exlaining veery firmly that they are SPECIAL PUNCTUATION and if you use them too many times it kills the effect, I prefer to see them few and far between... but yeah, this one book I read, something with C by Voltaire, *is horrible for not remembering*, used them like that, so I tried it out. XD;;;

Yeah. /rambling

Wonky weather is love! I'm a rain kinda gal myself so I'm envious... All we get is freezing temp and a tad of snow (I'm mad over the fact that despite it being -40C the college doesn't close... grrr). I wish for rain. Summer can not come too soon!

(pst... That book you were talking about is probably Candide... And Voltaire is a master of the semi-colon. Must make those poor translators sweat getting it right.)

Today, I looked out the window and it was dripping, right? Half a minute later I looked outside again and it was already snowing HARD. It's so crack.

Yeah, I'm a rain person too. Loove it. We don't really get proper rain here, though; it kinda just... sprinkles. But the wind makes it hardcore, so I suppose it's okay. =D The best kind of rain is the soaked in 30 seconds kind, but that doesn't happen back home or here...

-40... Grah. Good luck. My mom tells me it's somewhere between -49 and -55 at home right now, but yanno what? Nooothing closes. Ever. At minus 45 they used to take us sledding in elementary school. XD;;; Where's this college you speak of?

(Yup, Candide it was. Couldn't quite remember...)

Haha that is crack! And people say our weather is unpredictable *rolls eyes*.

Its finally warmed up but we had a stretch of 3 days where the weather dipped from -40 to -50 and I still walked to the college. Its in Red Deer AB btw. I like 5 mins away but that walk seems like forever in -40 weather. Wind makes it worse. And I heard the other day that all the bureaus in Toronto closed because it dared to fall at -27... Yeah we were not impressed... ^^

Yuuup. I'm in Victoria right now, an according to the other students here, the city shuts down and we get a snow day with something like two inches of snow. XD;; It's just sad. I suppose it's relative, since these people aren't from the Yukon, but yeah, the Yukon never let's weather stop it.

Then again, if the temp ever went over 30 degrees, we'd probably all pass out. XD;;

Oh I know what you mean. I've got a friend in Dallas who's complaining because she has to get her clothes out of the car but its too cold (at 2C... no not joking) her WINTER has 20C during the day.... but I sure as hell wouldn't live during the summer where it can hit 40... that would be scary. I would live in the night probably. Never to see the light of day until autumn.

That's pretty sad. I really can't imagine winter that isn't fucking freezing. Then again, here, it doesn't really go below zero, so I run around in a t-shirt all the time. People think I'm psycho. But it unnerves me. Clear days and 10C is really not my idea of winter, and this is my first year of not enduring minus 50. XD;;

I agree with you on the summer thing. I really, really prefer cold, because at least you can get blankets. Heat cannot be escaped. I swear. 25 degrees outside max is optimal for me. It's not like I leave the house anyways. XD;;

Haha I know... I visited a friend of mine in Vancouver last month. I couldn't believe how relatively warm it is there. And 10C? Give me that any day. Thats nice weather. Though the blankets thing is fun. I've got four comforters piled on my bed because I never bother to turn up the thermostat XD.

As for summer I'm kinda weird. Since I stay inside, I wear jeans and long sleeves year round (bright lights suck) but it would kill me if we ever went passed 25.

2008-02-07 02:13 am UTC (link)
Yeah, 25 is really the upper tolerated edge, when I think about it. It usually doesn't go past 20 in Whitehorse, so it's good. Long sleeves and blankets are good too.

I have freak body temperature, so I either overheat or freeze, and I'm often the opposite to touch, so people are like, 'jesus, your hands are FREEZING' and I'm like, 'whut, really? I'm dying of heat.' and yeah. You'll see me running around in clothing completely unmatched to the weather. XD;;

Do bright lights do something to your skin, or are the sleeves and lights not actually connected? XD;;

Haha I've got ice hands and feet too... despite my mounds of clothing I'm not happy if I'm wearing socks so my feet turn very very cold without my noticing it. I used to freak out my boyfriend by putting my foot on his ankle under the table. Boy did he jump. XD

Lol I should have explained that better... I never go outside in summer without sun glasses because I'm mildly photophobic (bright lights, even indoor lights hurt my eyes and give me headaches) and because I'm inside I get a little cold so I wear long sleeves... there is my logic.

Yay! I've got a sister soul XD

Photophobia runs in my family. My cousin Lynelle has a sever case. She can't takes much above dim. Some cloudy days are ok but that depends. She wears these tinted glasses or specialty dark contacts inside and outside and while in her house she has dimmers. Its kinda sad. Its like Albino people some can't take much light because of the no pigment thing. Our eyes are very light Grey (though mine a tinted blue most days) so I think that might play a factor.

That's really cool! I mean, the eye colour. The photophobia, not so much. Being able to choose not to go in light is alright, but it must really be awful to have to be so careful. Does it just cause headaches, or are there worse symptoms (would the word be symptoms? Results?)?

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]ceirwy
2008-02-07 02:45 am UTC (link)
It is cool sometimes cause I get to wear my sunglasses indoors with a great excuse... which is nice when I've hard a particularly hard night... You can hide puffy eyes and dark circles well behind the right pair of glasses XD. But the being careful does suck. Since my case is mild there are a few interesting symptoms. I mostly get headaches and they suck. But if I accidentally get caught in a flash I can go temporarily blind. Camera flashes usually set me back 5 minutes. But this one time a light bulb broke and and the flash was so strong I couldn't see for the rest of the day. Its a very weird feeling. As for my cousin, well she can go permanently blind or get a seizure from too much light.

*hums* I wear my sunglasses at night, so I can, so I can...

I wish I could find something more eloquent to say than 'that sucks', because there's so much more to it than that. I just can't figure out how to say it. I couldn't imagine having to be so careful with flashy stuff. I'm the kid who fiddles with all kinds of explosive and flashy crap, as well as loooves neon. Man... Can I send hugs, even if you've asked for no comfort?

....Speaking of neon, that reminded me of dances, and strobe lights... How's blacklight for your eyes? :o

Cory Heart is Love. That was my theme song back in High School. My friends and I used to belt it out from the Chem lab room during lunch. Ah good times good times.

lol. That sucks is very well put though. I'll take that hug though just cause I like them and not because I need to comfort. When you live with something so long you get used to it. Though I'm a pyromaniac myself... so fire is a go with me. I take teh occasional flash just from the fun of the explosions XD.

Neon is ok because you need dark for neon and I like that, but strobe and blacklights are nonos. I mean I can take them but not for very long. I used to be in theater so I got used to finding ways to stay on stage and not go blind from those specialty lights. Took me a few blind days to figure it out. And being blind aint so bad if you have someone to hang off of XD.

Or get in the elevator and not turn around the face the doors and people would look at us funny...

Or make out in the elevator just for the heck of it and make it very steamy/romance novel ish... People freak when you start yelling "Oh yes! Oh yes. Give it to me!"

I would be honoured to tell you our mischief.

Our lasted thing was at the Prairie Mall. See there was this big, well I guess it was like a tube or a bin sitting on this wheely thing, and the top of the bin had a circular door. So my buddy Jason decides to put on his gorilla mask (don't ask why we had it XD)and lift the bin to hide inside. And we wheeled it nest to a bench in the mall. So whenever he felt like it , he'd pop his head out of the top and freak people out. Then Felix decided to put his ninja mask on and he'd steal fries from people and slowly let his head rise out and just stare at people before putting a finger to his lips and sinking back down. Gods it was like what you see on the tv gag shows.

And this is just one of many many incidents.

(There aren't really any malls in Whitehorse. There was one, but there was no food court or anything, just four or five stores with a hallway inside, so I donno if it counts, but it kinda died because all the businesses have moved to this strip mall thing where the buildings are connected but you go into all the stores from outside, so it's no good for hanging out. It's ugly, too, parking lots and big, nasty buildings, gravel pit around it... They filled in a marsh for it. Ahhh, rambling. =D)

Yay! Well the thing is in my whole group there are 4 guys... and all of them are bi or gay.

So the five of us are in the Timmy's where we love the hang and it's 7pm. The place is somewhat empty except from this family at one table, some teens and a big bicker looking dude sitting next to the bathrooms... And the five so us are being goofy and laughing so we're getting dirty looks for that. And Jason is annoyed by the looks so he turns to me and says "lets give them something to really be mad about." and he jumps Charlie (we're sitting at a booth-ish btw) and proceeds to make out with him. Now they weren't dating or anything but since we were all in Theater together we've all kissed each other at some point due to the "OMG exercises" (which I can explain if need be ;) ). So we start laughing and everybody else falls silent. And the Father of the family (who I'm guessing was this really strict religious guy from the looks of him)gets up and walks over to Jason and taps him on the shoulder and says "Look this is a family setting. Please dont do that." And Jason just gets up and says "yes sir!" the guy goes back to sitting down but Jason grabs Charlie drags him over to the bathrooms... Where they proceeded to give yell themselves horse doing something that sounded rather sexual. NO ONE wanted to go stop them for fear of seeing something they shouldn't. The poor bicker guy looked more than uncomfortable. And when they came out they looked very sexed which only served to make the Father madder....

needless to say we got kicked out but we laughed all the way home.

The OMG exercises literally make you go "OMG WTF!?!" when you first hear about them in theater.

We were all in a very serious group so they make us do bonding exercises so everyone feels comfortable around each other so that in the play chemistry or friendship or even hatred seems more natural.

So one of the OMGE is basically just like a game of spin the bottle. You pick a name out of a hat and do a romantic scene that ends with a kiss. Eventually you end up kissing everyone gays girls whatever.

There is also the chicken game where 2 to three people sit together and take turns trying to make someone uncomfortable with the presence. ANY kind of touching is allowed until someone says chicken.

There is also the trapped game where two people get a randomly picked body part tied together and they have to do a task like that. (I've had like foreheads together, a foot tied, asses, chests... everything really)

It can seem very scandalous to some people but we got very used to being in each other's spaces so when we acted it seemed so natural and real.

Our troupe won lots of prizes and awards for our productions.

I'm unsure about what kind of theater program you're talking about... Do you mean university level?

Because if you join a group usually they easy you through it and you gain bigger and bigger roles. Ours was of this type. We were casual enough to take in anybody and just have fun, but we were professional enough to show up at festivals and competitions. Some groups though you have to audition and are very strictly geared. As for University level well they have everything from acting for beginners, to set design, to what we call "mise en scene" which is a sort of directing, to screenplay work to high caliber classes. I'd encourage you to join a club of somesort. Those are usually casual enough if you're not looking to be a serious actor.

I'm still in high school, so I don't know... And it wouldn't be that I'm not looking to be a serious actor, it's just that I've never done it before, and so often you run into things that want you to have been playing/practicing/learning the particular skill since age four...
